Summer heat and travel

Protect your blood sugar, insulin and feet in the heat and on the move.

Draft · awaiting clinician review

In the heat

  • Drink water regularly; dehydration can raise blood sugar.
  • Keep insulin and your meter out of direct heat and never leave them in a parked car. Use a cool bag.
  • Be active early in the morning, after sunset or indoors.
  • Protect your feet from hot floors and sand.

When you travel

  • Carry all medicines in your hand luggage, with extra supplies.
  • Bring a letter from your doctor listing your medicines.
  • If you use insulin and cross time zones, ask your team how to adjust timing.
  • Keep snacks and fast-acting sugar with you.
